How I turned 600 million years of geology into a one minute symphony.

Jersey. A Symphony Of Creation.

Who could easily overlook “just another coastal destination”
To feel Jersey as a living fragment of Earth’s story
By turning its geology into a live orchestral performance on the edge of the Atlantic.

The challenge

To secure UNESCO Global Geopark status, Jersey needed more than a logo and a brochure. It needed a brand. A story. A campaign that could stand alongside other world class landscapes and say: this little island belongs on the global stage.

Budgets were not on the Netflix scale. There would be no CGI mammoths stampeding across the bay. No epic animation of tectonic plates colliding. Yet we still had to dramatise 600 million years of creation in a way that felt cinematic, emotional and rooted in the actual land under your feet.

My brief was to create the core brand platform for the aspiring Jersey Island Geopark. That meant developing the hero narrative, tone of voice and launch campaign that every future asset would lean on.

The idea

The Geopark already had the drama. Volcanic granite. Glacial valleys. Atlantic swell. The only job was to conduct it.

I took inspiration from Disney’s Fantasia and created “Jersey. A Symphony of Creation” as the hero idea. A London conductor standing on windswept cliffs, using his baton to conduct the raw forces of nature around him.

We brought out Alex Conway, composer and conductor of the London Incidental Orchestra, and placed him on iconic geosites around the island. No studio, no green screen. Just score, coastline and weather.

The landscape becomes the orchestra. Waves as percussion. Wind in the strings. Birds as woodwind. Geology as performance, not PowerPoint.

What I did

  • Created the core brand platform and hero narrative “Jersey. A castaway’s story” for all future Geopark storytelling

  • Defined the brand attributes and tone of voice so scientists, tourism and government could speak in one voice

  • Conceived the “Symphony of Creation” film and wrote the narrative arc that links geological chapters to musical movements

  • Led creative direction on locations, performance and edit to pull a genuinely cinematic feeling from a very non Netflix budget

The impact

The film aired on ITV Jersey as the public face of the aspiring Geopark and anchors the campaign hub at jerseyislandgeopark.org.je.

More importantly, it gives the project a clear, ownable creative spine. From policy decks to walking trails, the Geopark now has a story, a sound and a conductor on a cliff that no other destination can copy.
