How I explained energy infrastructure through the language of cinema.
Jersey Electricity Presents…
Get Jersey Electricity customers
Who ask big questions about energy but struggle to engage with complex answers
To understand how the island’s energy system works
By using cinematic storytelling to turn infrastructure into something human, relatable and engaging.
The challenge
Jersey customers were asking important questions.
Why are bills higher in winter? Where does our energy actually come from? What does the energy trilemma even mean?
The answers existed. But they were technical, complex and easy to switch off from.
The challenge wasn’t information. It was attention, engagement and understanding.
The idea
Why did people suddenly understand sub-prime mortgages when Margot Robbie explained them from a bathtub?
Because complex ideas land when you wrap them in story, character and spectacle.
JE Presents applies the rules of cinematic exposition to energy.
I devised a series of films to pair a familiar world and trusted local character with a clear visual metaphor, using engaging, often unexpected setups to explain complex concepts simply and intuitively.
Not by simplifying the truth. By translating it into worlds Jersey people already understand.
What I did
As Creative Director and concept lead, I created the platform and storytelling system for the series.
I defined a clear creative rule for every film: a local character, a visually engaging setup, and a metaphor that makes the concept instantly understandable.
I developed the concepts and scripts across the series, applying this consistently across multiple topics. From a French chef using pastry to explain why Jersey imports energy, to Jersey RFC Women demonstrating storm resilience, to cold water swimmers and sauna-goers bringing winter demand to life.
Led creative direction on locations, performance and edit to pull a genuinely cinematic feeling from a very non Netflix budget
The impact
A more engaging way to answer customers’ toughest energy questions.
A platform that turns complex infrastructure into something people can follow and remember.
And a shift from explaining energy to making people actually care about it.
